Unfortunately, due to COVID, Nick and Bua's annual trip to Thailand was not possible. But that didn't stop them from giving back. With many gyms closed down and Muay Thai competitions halted, sales were naturally down this year. Nonetheless, through their virtuous efforts, they raised over 100,000 baht for our gym.
We put 60,000 of this towards our GoFundMe and used the rest to make a difference in our local community: we purchased fishing rods for our kids, helped out a few unemployed fighters, bought groceries and continued our support for Sor. Puangthong Gym in Buriram.
Children in Isaan don't have access to extracurricular actives. Some don't even have the resources to make it through high school. The NGOs and programs in Thailand meant to help these children often don't make it to the village. This is why Muay Thai is such an essential part of our community. Muay Thai helps bridge the poverty gap and offers support for children who would otherwise be on their own.
Sor. Puangthong Muay Thai Gym currently houses seven children, most of whom are orphans. We stocked up on over 8,000 baht worth of groceries, which we delivered ourselves. We gave them 8,000 baht in cash to help with school fees, electricity, water, etc.
Sor. Puangthong is a critical part of the local community here. If not for their selfless efforts, these children would be on their own – with little to no direction in life. Muay Thai adds structure to their lives, gives them goals to work towards, keeps them off drugs and on the right path, and keeps them in school.
Our gym relies on the generosity of others. If it weren't for our supportive community, such as Muay Thai 4 Orphans, we wouldn't be here today, and we wouldn't be able to support those in our communities.
